teaching reading and writing ESL/EFL in adult education

China’s higher education has been teaching English reading and writing under the behaviorism theoretical framework for more than thirty years. As new problems emerging, teachers of English are attempting diverse teaching models. Currently, socio-constructivism is getting more of educator's attention. More and more successful and fruitful application of the theory have been reported. As a Chinese teacher of English in higher education, I am trying to explore models of teaching English reading and writing that can be applied to Chinese context.
In the following few days, I am going to post several articles about teaching reading and writing ESL/EFL in the field of adult education.

  1. I think that your interest in teaching English within the Chinese context is vitally important. As educators, we always discuss how the world is becoming smaller and smaller due to globalization, but I'm not sure if this idea is really taken to heart by many, for if it was, then others would see that knowledge of how English is taught and spread througout the world has serious implications. If it were so, I think that there would be a greater focus on issues of globalization within teacher education programs.
